Greek Transgender Journey Support

My name is Elena, and as strange as it may sound, a few years ago, I didn't have the strength to imagine that I would one day introduce myself as Elena.

I am 29 years old and work as a stylist and booker at a modeling agency. I grew up in a small place with close-minded people and highly religious families. I spent my whole life aware of my differences, always hiding them to protect myself. When I was a teenager, I confessed my thoughts to my spiritual advisor, believing I had committed some unforgivable sin.
Growing up, I realized that my biggest sin was not living freely. After many ups and downs and years of psychoanalysis, I accepted and loved myself. A year and a half ago, I came out as a transgender woman and started my hormone therapy. I wouldn't have been able to do anything without the support of the endocrinology team at Papageorgiou Hospital, where they provide absolutely professional and informed care for transgender individuals. I was always a person with rapid and intense gender development. Nevertheless, this didn't stop me from starting hormone therapy at 27, despite receiving mixed opinions. I heard and read that it might be too late to achieve the body and face I desired. I never gave up, but unfortunately, transitioning in a country like Greece is challenging.
