Grace sjukvårdskostnader

Update posted by Fredrik Olsson On Jan 10, 2016

Today is the last day before the deadline of our fundraiser, I want to once again thank you all who have contributed to the fundraiser in one way or another and thus give som publicity to our fund which will make a big difference for Brenda and Grace. If you have thought of donating but haven't done it yet, now is the last chance. Like before it is possible to transfer money through swish if you think it's complicated to donate through the link: http://www.gogetfunding.com/grace-sjukvardskostnad...

Hardly a week to go until the deadline of our fundraiser, I'm fascinated by how benevolent people can be. Most of all, I am fascinated by all of you who have no connection to either Grace or Brenda but have shared the fundraiser / made a donation anyway, shares / donations, without any self-interest. All the publicity and all contributions are of immense importance and we have so far managed to collect an amount that I initially did not think was possible. I finally got in touch with Grace a few days ago since he has been unable to communicate for himself before then. He told me that he was moved to tears when his fiancée Brenda showed him the list of everyone who donated, both because of their financial situation but also because so many people showed benevolence. I am aware that it will be very hard to reach the target in less than a week but all contributions coming in means less loans for Grace and Brenda. So please, all of you who are thinking about making a donation, big or small, it will make a difference whether we reach the goal or not. If you have problems to donate, it’s okay to transfer money through “swish” to Fredrik Olsson by phone number 0730308935, or ask for my account number so I can make a donation in your name, this is possible for individuals as well as businesses.

Tack!
Thank you!

Merry Christmas everybody! I have good news regarding Nyiiro Gracehospital bill. Grace will soon leave the hospital to get medical support in their home instead. This was much earlier than expected, which also means that the final bill will be a lot cheaper than estimated. Instead of 150 000 SEK Nanyonga Brenda now believe that the final amount including physiotherapy in their home will be just over 70 000 SEK. In addition, Grace's work contributed with around 17,000 SEK, which means that our target is revised from 150 000 SEK to just over 50 000 SEK. Unfortunately, Grace is still unable to move or feel when someone touch his legs. After much bureaucracy and mailing, we now keep our fingers crossed that the first withdrawal to Brenda will be available for her shortly since they need to buy a wheelchair and specially adapted bed etc to cope with caring for and rehabilitating Grace in their home.
Thank you for continuing to spread and contribute!

God Jul allesammans!

ENG:

Three days have gone and we are overwhelmed by all the support Nyiiro Grace and Nanyonga Brenda have recieved. The fundraiser have only been active for three days but we have already managed to collect 14 181 SEK!

Now when Christmas is coming up we have decided to create gift certificates, in other words, the people receiving a gift gets a paper saying a donation have been made in their name. An excellent Christmas gift for those who already have everything they need. This “certificate” will not be fancy, just a proof that a donation is actually made since I am no designer. Anyone who donates or already have donated over 200 SEK (within Sweden) have the possibility to claim a “gift certificate” for either themselves or to give away as a Christmas gift. The only thing you need to do is donate 200 SEK to:

https://gogetfunding.com/grace-sjukvardskostnader/

When you have done that, just email me at [email protected] with the name of the person that should get the certificate and the address you want me to send it to!

SWE:

https://gogetfunding.com/grace-sjukvardskostnader/

Thank you so much for your donations/ Tack så mycket för era donationer:

My good friend Grace Nyiro, who is 31 years old, was a passenger in a serious car accident on Friday the 20th of November 2015. The driver was trying to avoid a head-on collision with a truck, but instead ran into a large billboard. Grace suffered serious and complex injuries while the other three in the car fortunately came off lightly. Grace has several fractures in the neck and throat, which caused pressure on his spinal cord. Grace has already undergone several surgeries in which doctors have been trying to artificially replace the bones in the neck and fix the other fractures.

Grace’s lower body is currently paralyzed, so he is unable to walk and sit up. The doctors advise that he be hospitalised longer so that his body can rest and heal and so that Grace will hopefully be able to fully recover.

Time is of course money, especially in the intensive care department in Uganda! Today (Sunday, 29/11/ 2015) Grace’s treatment amounts to approximately €5400. Doctors estimate that Grace must remain in hospital for at least another month, preferably even longer so that he is gradually able to recuperate. Grace’s fiancée, mother and siblings are finding it very difficult to pay for these hospital fees.

I had the privilege of knowing Grace and his fiancée Brenda for just over a year when the two were classmates of mine in the University of Gothenburg’s International Masters programme in social work and human rights. They both had the opportunity to study in Sweden after they managed to get a scholarship through a collaboration between Makerere University, the University of Gothenburg and the Swedish Institute. The three of us became quite close, and I chose to do my internship abroad in their hometown of Kampala in Uganda. There my girlfriend and I had the opportunity to meet Grace's mother, an amazing single woman who received us with great warmth. She even gave us gifts upon our departure despite being hard up! Grace’s mother's thoughtfulness is definitely a family trait. Grace and I had many interesting discussions about social issues in our home countries during his time in Sweden, as well as watching football together, cooking Swedish meatballs and tasty Ugandan dishes. In 2014 we celebrated Swedish Christmas together. I hope that Grace will be able to continue life as he always has but I also hope that he gets the opportunity to pursue his future goals: working to solve social problems in Uganda is a cause close to his heart.

It’s for these reasons that together with a classmate, Katie Gonser, we decided that we should do everything we can to try to gather as much money as possible so that Grace can get the care he needs to recover. So please, please, any contribution, however small, is appreciated. All the money will go directly to Grace’s medical costs and will be of great help to Grace’s future.

Grace is one of the best people I have had the privilege of knowing. He is a very, very close friend.

Many thanks!

Vielen Dank.
