Giving Something Back…Please help us to say, “Yes!”

During the time of Covid, in May 2020, a small group from our small church in Huércal-Overa began giving out free bags of basic foods. We gave to those in the neighbourhood who were suffering genuine hardship as a result of all their work stopping. suddenly. The ministry of "Puertas Abiertas" ("Open Doors") was begun under the name of the church, Iglesia Cristo Vencedor, registered under Spanish law as a not-for-profit Association.

That was over three years ago now, and although the food bags are now not required, we very much wanted to keep those doors open, and to continue to help those in need. (After all, that's what Jesus did!) We have been able to partner with a local social services department in offering targeted and specific financial help to those families and individuals who had been referred to them. They tell us what is needed, the cost, and ask if Puertas Abiertas is able to help. Wonderfully up to now, we have always been able to say. "Yes!"

Since July we have paid out for urgent cancer medication, an electricity bill to stop a family with three young children from having their supply cut off, and bought food and nappies. But the biggest bill at this time of year has been the provision of sets of compulsory school books for very young children and older teenagers. But Our funds are now very low, and we are conscious that Christmas is on the horizon. (Last year we were asked if we could provide presents for children from families! And we did. More than fifty of them!

We desperately want to continue to be able to respond to these basic needs of people irrespective of faith, nationality or anything else. We see it as being able to give something back into the community so that others do not have to endure the hardships that we know so little of. We are asking you to please help us help local people. Every cent is accounted for and every cent directly funds the need. Each and every donation will help someone or a family in our area, and in giving a donation, however small, you are helping us to say, "Yes!". Thank you so, so much.
