Get Karin Home

On the evening of Sunday, June 11th, my friend Karin Ellerstrand Törnwall was involved in a serious road accident here in the Cayman Islands. She was thrown from the back of a motorcycle when it collided with a car on West Bay Road. She sustained multiple injuries including a concussion, a small cerebral haemorrhage, a broken hip, a broken foot and multiple lacerations all around her body.

Karin had literally just completed a four month internship as a social worker for FRC and the bridge foundation here and was scheduled to return home to Sweden the following morning! Unfortunately, her health insurance had expired just days prior and she along with her family are now left to foot a sizeable medical bill at the hospital.

I visited Karin in the hospital on the night the accident occurred. When I saw her, my heart broke and I knew I had to try and help in any way I could.

Hey. I wanted to uppdate this so many times but its been a long way to 100 % recovery and Im still not there yet. I wanted to tell you all that Im so much better and Im so grateful for all your support, but at the same time for me Its hard to receiver peoples money. I feel so very touched that people care and open their hearts and how people ive never met has been helping out.

The donations helped a lot since my parents had to pay a large sum and i feel like i already owe them so much for being there for me and taking care of me this whole period after the accident.

We managed to pay half the bill and got the drivers insurance company to pay 40% off it so i could leave and go home where i got the rest of the treatment on my swedish insurance.

I see that people are following this and i wanted you all to know that ive healed well and only have some trauma experiences scars and the hip still. But the only thing that Will remain in the end is the scars since me and my friend was very very lucky. Its been harder for me to see my family go through this and feeling their pain. Thank you all for being warm wonderful people it has helped a lot feeling all the support and just feel the warmth and support!
