Short Summary

I am Pierre Ndongo, the Vice-president of the Cameroon Association for Online Examination Preparation (CASONEP). CASONEP is aimed at promoting the use of information technology at all levels of education in Cameroon. This association is made up of youths who have been able to discover that due to poverty, many young people in Cameroon are dropping out from school. This is because they want to work to feed themselves and their families.  we are very much interested in helping them to gain some level of education, by providing to the the possibility of working and studying at the same time. we have therefore created a learning platform where they could study online and prepare for national certificates and diplomas while keeping their job to help them feed their families. We are therefore soliciting for help to create a physical campus and to have the necessary infrastructure to run the programs. This is because, currently we are existing only virtually and we do not yet have a physical office. We need to have a computer laboratory and internet connection to deliver the lectures and courses.

What We Need & What You Get

We need about 30, 000 USD for this project. This money will be used for the following purposes - to rent an apartment that will be used as a training centre,  - to buy computers and other accessories that will facilitate distance learning - to buy a projectors and camcorders - to hire experts that will help deliver the program - to provide internet connection to teachers and students

The Impact

this project will help improve on the literacy rate is Cameroon and it will help students involve to gain more decent employment in future and also to be able to better negotiate employment with their employers. these young Cameroonians are being exploited by their employers because they do not have any qualification. If we succeed in educating them, the issues of decent employment and child labour will be solved.

Risks & Challenges

The most important risk that we need to handle in this project is the availability of a stable internet connection. Secondly, most of the population lack computer skills. In order to solve the issue of unstable internet connection, we are introducing an aspect of blended learning. That is, in house lectures will be arranged during weekends so that those who will not be able to attend an online session will be able to have physical contact with the teachers. We will also be producing lectures on CDs, DVDs, and documents that the students will be able to consult off line. Concerning the issue of lack of computer skills, we will be offering free computer training to all the students. This will enable them to be able to access the internet to carry out research and also to take part in the studies without any difficulties. People value your transparency. Be open and stand out by providing insight into the risks and obstacles you may face on the way to achieving your goal.
