Gave's Journey with Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT)

Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) is a condition characterized by an irregularly fast or erratic heartbeat that affects the heart's upper chambers. Typically, the heart beats around 60 to 100 times a minute, but during an episode of SVT, it can reach speeds of 150 to 220 beats per minute, sometimes even faster or slower. While most people with SVT don't require treatment or activity restrictions, others may need to make lifestyle changes, take medication, or undergo heart procedures to manage or eliminate their symptoms.

Gave was diagnosed with Atrioventricular Nodal Reentrant Tachycardia (AVNRT) at the age of 11 in 2018. Since then, she has experienced trips to the emergency room, cardioversions, and confinements due to her condition.

This year, she has visited the emergency room in January, February, June which required her to be cardioverted and resulted in another confinement and recently this August 26, which was also not resolved with medication but with cardioversion.

She is scheduled to undergo ablation in 22 days. Without undergoing a recommended procedure called Radiofrequency Catheter Ablation using 3D mapping, Gave has to rely on taking maintenance medicine twice a day. She also needs to avoid coffee, tea, soda, sweetened beverages, and cold medicines. Strenuous physical activity is off-limits, and she must effectively manage both physical and emotional stress as these factors may trigger frequent episodes of SVT and might cause long term damage to the heart
