Carlos The Ask:

Help fund an orphan's first year of college. For so many of us, college was priceless. It nurtured the intellectual in us, allowed us to explore the arts and most importantly, gave us space to find our passions, create amazing experiences and lead us to who we are today. Let's give Carlos that chance. He has already been accepted to schools.

What Carlos Wants to Study and Do:

Carlos wants to help struggling entrepreneurs. As a entrepreneur himself, he has seen the complete lack of low cost or public assistance for fledgling businesses and their owners in his country. He hopes to study economics and information technologies in the US to provide guidance and support to small businesses in Paraguay. His ultimate goal is to work with government or non-profits to improve business practices throughout the country.

How You can help:

Donate! Every dollar helps!

Share this on Facebook and with friends and family!

The Dollar Social Challenge:

Donating a dollar is easy! You probably have it in your pocket. It isn't much but instead of donating more, we want you to to spread this video and fundraiser to 10 friends in the hopes they will donate one dollar and spread it to 10 of their friends creating a chain reaction of 1 dollar donors. All it takes is 1 dollar and a bit of your time. Help make Carlos' dream a reality.

The Problem:
Carlos is hoping to get international financial aid at the colleges he has applied to. Most colleges cost around $50,000 to attend a year. He is hoping scholarships and financial aid will cover at least 2/3rds of that cost. Seton and Lynn have only offered to cover 1/4th of his costs. We are hoping to raise at least $15,000 to cover what is not given in aid and ideally raise $20,000.

The Rewards:
Carlos would really like to offer his gratitude to all of those who help him and is more than willing to send emails and videos, when he can, to supporters.

The History:
Carlos was born in Paraguay, one of the poorest countries in South America. At birth his father abandoned him and at age 6, his mother took her own life. Luckily, his aunt and uncle took him in. In high school, a disagreement based on working while attending school forced Carlos to live with his brothers. From then on (age 16) Carlos worked to support himself. Knowing the importance of education, Carlos maintained excellent grades but also had to work. He started 2 business as a high school student, one selling small cakes and the other selling jewelry cases. He also repaired computers when he could. Carlos says that “Sustaining myself and being able to afford braces on my own was a turning point in my life. I realized I really could achieve anything I set my mind to.”
Then Carlos took the next great step in his life. Wanting to expand his horizons, Carlos applied for and won a scholarship to study English for two years and enter a program that would help him gain entrance into an American college. Carlos never knew if he had a real chance of getting in, yet he threw himself into his English classes and took all the necessary exams. On February 6th he got accepted at Seton Hall and Lynn University, the first 2 responses out of 15.
