Our daughter, Serena Elize, has been diagnosed of Arnold Chiari II Malformation, a congenital neurological condition that involves the spine and brain, ventricular septal defect and cleft palate. We first learned about her condition when she was still a 5-month old fetus. She was born last December 28 and 2 days after, she went through 2 major surgeries– lumbosacral myelomeningocele repair and VP shunting. During her stay in the hospital for almost 3 months, she went through 3 major and 3 minor surgeries, and 3 broad spectrum antibiotics were administered to her simultaneously through IV. After the 1st confinement, she stayed at home for exactly 1 month and readmitted again to another hospital because of VP shunt infection. She completed the 21 doses of Merop before her shunt was pulled out and it will be for replacement after a week. Right now, she’s still confined in the hospital, completing the required dose of a new antibiotic. She is scheduled to undergo VP shunt replacement on May 14.

Her condition needs special care. The condition affects her body from waist below; hence, she cannot urinate completely and she may not be able to walk. Continuous monitoring of her brain, kidneys and heart and physical therapy were suggested by her doctors. She is at risk of shunt infection, ventriculitis and kidney failure. We need to raise funds to provide for her hospital care and continuous medical expenses. Our family income is not enough to pay for all those expenses, not to mention the need to support our 2 older children. We have a fundraising goal of P500,000, and we need your help to reach it.
