We are an active group of Indonesian and refugees living in Jakarta (Kalideres) and run by local Indonesian. We are collaborating together with refugees to bring a change in the lives of their children.

What is the problem:

Indonesia is not a signatory to the UN refugee convention, therefore they don't recognize basic human rights such as the right to work, education, marriage, travel, or anything that requires an ID.

In 2019 more than 400 refugees are temporarily housed in an old military house, in small dome tents squashed into every room and spilling out into the concrete car park. There is no running water, electricity, bathroom facilities, or any certainty of food. A few days ago someone delivered biscuits, but there has been nothing since.

On the top floor refugees rest in their tents or under mosquito nets, their few possessions in plastic bags strung up on the wall. Outside children play in the dirt while the men slowly congregate on the shaded steps to pass the time. And these refugee children have no basic education in this refugee camp in Kalideres Jakarta.

Why do we need your help:

Keeping children in education during crises and other emergencies is a life-saving priority for children and their families. That’s not just our view: families themselves consistently prioritize education at times of crisis. They know that it helps their children to keep some sense of normality in otherwise stressful circumstances, and improves the prospects for recovery and longer-term wellbeing. Education provides physical and psychosocial protection that can save and sustain lives. Children affected by conflict can face many challenges which affect their health, wellbeing, and learning throughout their lives. Our early education approach gives these children a broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life. Our approach is gender-sensitive and inclusive of marginalized groups and children with special needs. We know that, in times of crisis, children are even more at risk from exploitation and abuse.

Our team collaborates with some refugee teachers to provide these children a basic education and the things that they need for studying, like (Books, Pen, Pencil, Bag and etc).

With your help, we can give these children the opportunity to have a basic education.
