Speech Therapy for a Little Boy

I have a son (little Jose Luis) who at age six still does not talk much and needs the earliest and continuous intervention as possible. And this pandemic is hindering us from being able to do so.

This pandemic shut almost every opportunity we have left.

For now, our roof completion is put on hold after it got destroyed by typhoons. We need to focus on my little boy's speech. One or two words from him would mean a very great improvement. We really need professional help (speech therapist maybe) so he can get the help he needs.

a. What is speech therapy? It is a therapy that intends to promote better speaking for the patient. Usually, speech therapy is applied to children or those with difficulty speaking at a certain age.

b. Price of speech therapy in the Philippines? Many clinics, hospitals and child development centers offer speech therapy. It is a good idea to choose the service provider that offers the cheapest price. In the Philippines, the price of speech therapy can range from Php650 (13USD) to Php3,000(60USD) per session per hour depending on the center’s rates.

Speech Therapy Assessment- P3,500 ($70) (including the initial evaluation report)

ST Sessions- P1,250 ($25) per hour and P1,500 ($30) per hour for senior therapists

Progress Report- P500 ($10) for progress report

Duration: Depends on the situation of the child and the assessment of the doctor. May take months or years until the child improves 80% and can now join regular school while continuing the program.

(Since we are from a small barrio, far away from the city, it will be more difficult. Considering the travel time, the fare, the accommodation and daily expenses, plus the checkpoints and health protocols. It will be really really hard and very difficult to shoulder. But the baby needs help the soonest. I, as a mother, can feel that my efforts are not enough and he could use some professional aid ASAP)

His consistency and compliance will also be improved and that is where they will focus.

1500 - session payment

500 - fare to the city

500- food

200 - report per session

2,700php (54usd) and they suggested 3x a week = 8,100php (162usd) per week or 32,400php (648usd) per month

For seven months till next evaluation, 226,800php ( 4,563USD)

**Update: September -- we had almost 3 months already. Improvements are amazing! He can say mama, papa, yes, no and other simple words. No phrases yet but he is more responsive. So we still need to continue for several months more for my son's case. It could take longer than 7 months (). We had to pause for now since we cannot afford it again. **

So costly. But all for baby. Happy and nervous how this will all work out. But I know God will provide.

These all will lead to a stable and secured life for a small family on this side of the world, especially to a young little boy.
