For my Son Diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease

My son Keane Mathew, 6 years old, was diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease. A rare disease wherein the inflammation tends to affect the coronary arteries, which supply blood to the heart muscle. He was initially diagnosed with measles due to rashes and fever. He also had swollen lymph nodes in the neck. On the 5th day, rashes were gone, but still have fever and peeling of skin have started. We were only able to have a follow-up consultation on the 9th day and during that time, we were told that it is possible to be a Kawasaki Disease. We are referred to a Pedia-cardio, but unfortunately, we were not able to have a consultation on that day due to insufficient cash. I got so worried throughout the day as I never heard of this disease before. On the evening of August 20 (9th day) I decided to bring my child to the hospital because I noticed something different in his tongue. His lips also turned dry and cracked. The following day, he had his 2D echo and found out that his left coronary artery was dilated. It was confirmed as Kawasaki Disease. The only treatment they can give is thru transfusion of IVIG (Intravenous Immunoglobulin) that costs PHP 150000 ($ 2775.00). Luckily, the hospital agreed to give the medicine despite our inability to pay that amount. That is because of the urgency to give the treatment to avoid Aneurysm and other possible heart complication. We are so much blessed by God because the treatment was successful. After two weeks, another 2D Echo was done and his heart was back to normal. However, his WBC, platelets and ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate) are still high. Keane is still on rest as of this moment and we are currently working out with his low weight.

The struggle that we are facing right now is the hospital bill that we left unpaid costing PHP 172000 ($3181.00). We do not have the capacity to pay this amount and so we are knocking on your generous hearts for the financial support. We are hoping that thru this channel, we will be able to raise a fund to settle our unpaid bill. Keane will also be having a series of follow-up consultations and laboratory procedures in order to monitor his health condition.
