I am Dolores Clavel Caraos, 57 years old, a single parent to a 26 years old.
I have been a struggling woman (since my teen years) who to used to support my family and help others as much as I could. But due to turn of events in life, am now the one looking and waiting for support.
I am a single mother to Ronald Caraos (26 years old who is suffering from Crohnâ s Disease since 2013), had been a legal secretary from 1986-2008 and was able to work in Dubai from September 2008 to September 2016. Everything was then seemed to be alright as I was able to finance the miscellaneous college expenses of my son, an academic scholar of De La Salle University. However, in November 2013 my son got sick and was then hospitalized several times for stomach disorder, internal bleeding, blood transfusion, anal fistula ... until in 2015 he was diagnosed for Crohnâ s disease, a rare auto immune disease here in the Philippines. You could really imagine how hard it is for a mother to see her only child in such a great weight loss and so pale. Almost came at the same, our company in Dubai had been facing some financial issue until in October 2016 had to went back home as the situation was getting worst.
When i came home, I planned to look for a job to sustain our necessities but unfortunately i noticed strange from my mother (now 84 years old), which upon consultation, it was confirmed to be dementia. Hence, i could not leave her alone with my brother in our hometown and she has been under medication also to weaken the progress of her condition. With this situation, I cannot fully take care and look after my son who is living and working in Metro Manila. My sonâ s doctors never advised my son to stop working despite his condition as he will be prone to more stress if unemployed.
Currently, my son is under treatment of ADALIMUMAB (HUMIRA) 40mg/vial (costs almost P25,000.00) injected every 2 weeks, with which he is responding well. He started with such medicine in December 2018 with 4 vials (P100,000.00) during the introductory phase, 2 vials (P50,000) after 2 weeks and one vial every 2 weeks thereafter. Hence, since January, we have been spending barely P50,000.00 monthly that we obviously we canâ t really afford. Though my son is working but it is understandable that he has to sustain his daily needs, oral medicine, apartment rental, utilities, etc. We have been buying the medicine through credit cards and with the handsome cost of Humira, my son is already in neck-deep indebted to banks. I have also been approaching charitable institutions here from which I was granted very minimal amounts; nevertheless, I cannot deny that still a great help to buy thhe medicine. Some relatives and friends have also been of help from time to time.
Please note that it is a lifetime medication as the doctor said no direct medication to cure the disease.
Hope you understand my situation.
Thank you and God bless always.
