For My Dad’s Ongoing Cancer Treatment

My dad, Jaime R. Tiongson, 58 years old was diagnosed last year to have Glioblastoma Multiforme, a kind of brain cancer that is very aggressive. He had Craniotomy at Makati Medical Center last July 25, 2016. I am the bred winner of the family and my sister only gets an enough salary to sustain their needs. As you all know, having a brain surgery costs a lot and through the help of my family, friends, and colleagues it was done. However, biopsy result showed GBM. I was very down that time and praying very hard that there will be a miracle.. and there is, always.. it is proven all the time from the ups and downs that I have gone through. Never lost faith in Him.

My dad had continuous follow-ups with his Doctors. Finished his radiotherapy sessions for a month, which costs P2500 per day excluding transpo fees. He had his maintenance meds aside from his chemo drug. Also, his frequent Cranial MRI that costs P10,000 each time.

As a newly graduated Ophthalmology resident, I don't know how I managed all these but still remains the fact that my dad needs his Chemo drug (Temozolomide) 100mg, which is very expensive costing to about P20,000 per box with 5 capsules in it. His Oncologist said that he will take it for 6 months. My sister and I already went to PCSO to ask for help and fortunately, we were approved to have P80,000 worth of Temozolomide. We are currently needing some more of the drug and with our current situation now, we cannot afford much. I am also thankful to my aunt Chit who is continuously supporting us but I know she's spending too much already.

Aside from this, my mother also has her own maintenance meds because of her sickness (Mixed connective tissue disease - an autoimmune disorder) and I am the one who is buying all her meds too.
