Campaign Story
Hello. My name is Charelle. I would first like to thank you for viewing this page. This campaign is for my mother, Maricar, who is currently confined in the hospital due to complications from Covid-19.
My mom has been a frontline government employee for thirty (30) years. She was diagnosed as a diabetic, has a life-long thyroid condition, and suffers from high blood pressure as well. However, that never stopped her from being the hardworking employee, devoted wife, and loving mother that she is.
Right after the lockdown was lifted, she went to work in order to attend to the accumulated tasks and duties required of her. She faithfully practiced all the necessary procedures to stay safe: she wore a mask to work, took a shower after work, and did her best to keep her distance from us and her colleagues. Yet, with a stroke of bad luck, she began to experience flu-like symptoms.
When she was admitted to the Medical City in Pasig, Philippines in July 14, her health condition has since deteriorated. Between the time of her admission in the hospital and until now, she has had a cardiac arrest, fallen into a coma, and suffered a ruptured artery caused by an aneurysm.
Due to the severity and complexity of her condition, she has stayed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for four (4) weeks, which required the services of sixteen (16) doctors with varying fields of specialization.
As of August 16, total hospital bills have reached two million, four hundred eighty-two thousand, one hundred thirteen pesos (P2,482,113) or fifty-thousand nine hundred ninety dollars (USD 50,990) excluding professional fees.
While she recently tested negative for Covid-19, she has remained comatose and her doctors viewed that the grave complications of the virus on her physical and mental health would require extended and costly medical intervention. As per our estimates, continued and prolonged management of her condition – in the hospital and eventually within our home – would entail at least four hundred thousand pesos (P400,000) or eight thousand, two hundred seventeen dollars (USD 8,217) per month. This would cover expenses for installation of medical equipment at home; purchase of supplies and medicines; and wages for nurses, caregivers and doctors, among others. The cost of her continuing hospitalization has seriously compromised the combined resources of our family. We have tried everything: from selling our assets to asking government agencies for donations. The salaries of our family members are not enough.
Please, if you can donate any amount at all - or if you can help in some other way (like providing medical supplies, etc.), such contributions would be extremely appreciated. It may be a lot to ask, considering that times are hard during this pandemic, but if it means being able to give my mother another day to live, another fighting chance - that would be a miracle in itself.
Again, thank you so much. May God bless you, and may your family stay safe from harm.
