Campaign Story
I want to buy much-needed food for 12 desperately poor people and families in our village in Bulgaria. Many can't afford to buy the necessities to survive the winter. This year is worse than ever, because the food prices have gone up.
I plan to fill parcels with foodstuffs and deliver them personally on Christmas. I know who really needs help (mostly old people, but also mothers with children) and what they need most. I've been doing this for several years.
Bringing aid parcels into their homes is an incredible experience. These people are so grateful to get something to eat, that they can fill their stomachs at least for a few days. Some hug me and cry on my shoulder with relief and gratitude that they have not been completely forgotten.
I plan to use my own money again to give each recipient at least one parcel filled with foodstuffs - bread, milk, rice, pasta, lentils, salt, flour, canned vegetables, pasta, tuna, cooking oil, fruit juice and such. If I get donations, I'll buy additional items. It would be wonderful to give everyone several big parcels filled with edibles. I hope to add some hygiene items such as soap and toothpaste, and perhaps some tiny luxuries such as a bar of chocolate or a pair of thermal socks against the cold Bulgarian winter.
Volunteers will help me with the transport and carrying.
If you want to donate, I’ll use your gift to buy extra items for one specific person, whatever they need most. I'll tell you the person’s name, their situation and what exactly I've bought for them, so you’ll know to whom you’ve given relief and joy this Christmas. I'll tell you how they reacted, and I may even be able send you a photo. (Of course I'll take a photo only if they give me permission.)
Bulgaria is a poor country, a former communist nation in Eastern Europe. Our village is called Kirilovo, a community of around 300 people in the Yambol Province. The target amount is a random sum. If we exceed the target, I can reach morepeople and everyone gets more food.
Can you imagine the warm feeling this Christmas, when you think of the person whom you’ve helped?

First parcels packed
Update posted by Rayne Hall at 07:54 am
With the help of a volunteer, I've packed the first boxes with food aid.Now I've run out of cardboard boxes, so I've asked in the local shops to keep empty boxes for me.
First Milestone achieved
Update posted by Rayne Hall at 09:56 pmSince the original modest target amount has been achieved, I've entered a new higher target amount. This way, the project will continue to get exposure, and hopefully attract more donations. More donations mean that I can buy more food for the poor people, and they really need it.
