Support for Amazonian families affected by covid-19 lockdown.

Imagine knowing you and your loved ones are at very high risk of contracting the COVID-19 virus with limited help. This is the reality for those living in my home town of Leticia, capital of the Amazon region in Colombia.

Amanda, my mom, is making a difference by providing a couple of families with several groceries and money for them to be able to overcome this hard time, now we want to reach some 10 families more, that used to work us us with in tourism and are having a very difficult time because of lock down tnot beign able to work.

Compounding the situation is the city’s isolated location being only accessible by plane from Colombia. Serving 50,000 people are one small hospital and one small clinic. As you can appreciate this is not sufficient to meet the health care needs of the Letician people. Another reality is the corruption in the region. It is stopping proper care for those who need it the most. This is why grassroots initiatives like my mom’s are so critical.

As my mother says, there is no point on being happy alone, we need each other for that happiness to multiply.

As of May 24^th, there are 1450 cases confirmed cases but due to lack of testing we know that number is much higher, it has the highest rate of infection in the whole country.
