The Fluffy Bunch (Formerly: “Hell Colony”) July Fundraiser

This is a fundraiser for a very difficult colony in Agios Athanasios, Limassol. The name of this place was Hell Colony for a decade now, until this year. The cats deserve a better name, but those dropped off here are often doomed. Whether by the hand of man or by disease that arrived with an sick, abandoned animal...

In June we had mass disappearances, 30+ new arrivals (plus 10 in the past week alone), a number of cats have the flu and 15-20 kittens are currently at the colony who must be separated so they can actually get something to eat, medicated, and eyes cleaned every day. 10+ kittens are being fostered with various people, some are paid fosters. 60-100 adult cats feed here daily. 5+ of the cats have the flu.

This work is overwhelming and it often seems there is no end in sight for abandonings at this colony. The 2-3 people who help here cannot afford to take care of all the cats plus 30 new ones every month without help... This is nearly half the number that Tala Cats receives without any of the structure or support - just to illustrate the picture.

Hey everyone.. I know times are hard, and many animals are suffering from these hellfires..Many of you have supported Cyprus and it is much appreciated. As many of you know i am trying to take care of this much suffered colony at a cemetery in Agios Athanasios.

Abandonings are daily, people act like this a cat sanctuary, which it is not, we are 2-3 people trying to feed, take them to vets when sick, spay as many as we can and meanwhile we save 2, they drop off five. People pass to go to graves, and throw them some leftovers, and they think that is enough. There are more than 50 cats there.. These 2 weeks more than 10 kittens were abandoned there, who can not eat dry food, since they are too young. 5 of them already have the flue, who transmit it to kittens but i can't afford taking them all to the vet.. I have already spent more than i can this month. I have cut back on most of my personal expenses for them, i am dead tired, but i want to see them happy and well. We buy them as much as we can, but we can't afford that every day.. If you can spare something for these little babies please donate, and share. Bless you all!

Your help will cover food and medical care for these cats.

Spot-ons (the fleas and ticks pass diseases), deworming pastes, medicines, medical care for cats with the flu. We need 500 in reserve for emergency veterinary care - last month our total fundraised was 580 - this covered food, cleaning and kitten milk. All vet and medical care was covered by the very few volunteers and everyone is completely spent. Nutrition is important - without proper food the cats cannot fight diseases that are brought here again and again, but medical care for the currently sick ones is also important as they pass it to the rest of the colony!

While you make this a little bit easier, we work towards cleaning out this colony and working with the powers that be to change this situation (more about this below).

What are we doing to improve the situation?

Demetra is speaking with the neighbours to sign a petition for CCTV cameras and writing to the mayors office about getting help, but currently the volunteers and cats are completely on their own.

Notes on what is currently needed:

• Spot-ons are monthly minimum 60 euros. We can only get this price when we order in bulk (need fundraiser)
• Medication - flu, eyes, antibiotics, vaccinations when they are available (need fundraiser)
• Dry Food - we should order regular food (right now we have very high quality food which we should have last longer, meantime we should get good food but one that is not so pricey that we can mix together with this one)
• Wet Food - we have to decide, organise and order (need fundraiser)
• Detox Diet - Urinary food mixed with quality regular food (need fundraiser)
• Kittens Fosters - either we have to raise money for paid fosters or it is impossible (need fundraiser)
• Organize Group - we must find more people, we need 30 people for sure... to help feed, financially, foster, attend when we organize a cleaning or spot on... please invite people into the The Fluffy Bunch Cat Colony group. This place is not a beach or park colony with tourists coming buy with food in their pocket... noone spontaneously walks by here to give them treats or attention... so we need to find a really really big group who go here on purpose. The more of us there are in this area, united, the easier it is for each person and the better chances we have to improve the situation - these cats deserve help!
• TNR - we have 6-10 neuters available to us for 25 euros each - one has been paid. People here have already covered between 4 and 15 cats each...
• Fundraiser - Everyone and everything is SPENT, we have to fundraise again ASAP for all the above
• Videos - the sheer number of cats and kittens there, we need to fundraise and show what is going on here, including the sick which we cannot help without funds.
• Photos - we need to put together photos of all cats abandoned there in June, I dont even know how many it was.... minimum 30, probably more. None of us are sensationalist people, but we have to show the reality of the situation and ask for this help when needed.
• Start a small... cat cemetery at the colony location to mark the ones who die there. Can we place a rock for each cat? Maybe write their name... A rock for each cat who is remembered. They deserve something to mark their life and death form being dropped off here.
