Natalie Enid, born February 7, 2017, 32 weeks premature with a weight of 2.48lbs and 35.5cm long. She has been diagnosed initially with Gastroschisis on her 11th week. Gastroschisis is a birth defect of the abdominal wall where our baby's intestines stuck outside of the baby's body. In our baby's case, also found outside were her stomach and liver. Upon birth, it was determined that it was in fact Omphalocele without a protective sac. It is likely the sac ruptured during early pregnancy. Since Omphalocele is normally associated with genetic problems, we've done all the test to determine life expectancy and our daughter passed. Now we're fighting for her life. Though treatable, what made this very difficult for our child is her premature nature, she was too small. We tried helping her grow faster through increased protein during pregnancy, however, our baby didn’t catch up. We also wanted to reach term to make it more manageable, however, our little fighter wanted out sooner.
Three hours after birth, she was operated on to contain the organs in an improvised silo (unfortunately the needed apparatus was not readily available in the Philippines). This was needed to prepare the organs to be reinserted into her abdominal wall and to help protect against infection. However, due to her premature size and the exposed organs that seemed to have outgrown her, simple reinsertion is not possible. It is a race against time now, against infection, against all odds. Natalie, our dear daughter, is fighting for her life.
Our doctors believe that there is hope since our daughter has proven to be resilient. She is getting the best care available with top-notch doctors. But we need your help. Ensuring our dear Natalie's survival also means bleeding every last savings we have, though it is not enough. Natalie can't survive without being hooked to a ventilator and all these other machines. She's being monitored round the clock. It is close to impossible to find healthcare that covers her condition. We fear after ten or fifteen days we would simply have nothing to support her medical treatment financially. The amount is staggering, something like $1200 per day, and we are looking at maybe two to three months of treatment depending how Natalie progresses. Please with your kind heart help us save Natalie.

My niece, Emma, was in the NICU with Natalie. I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss. I will keep you all in my prayers.
We said goodbye to Natalie
Update posted by Christian Mata at 04:42 amIt pains us deeply to tell you that our courageous daughter passed away last March 17, at 39 days old, and was laid to rest yesterday, March 23. Natalie Enid fought a good fight, but now she sleeps eternally and forever will be our angel up above watching us here
Progress not fast enough
Update posted by Christian Mata at 07:51 pmComplications have contributed to Natalie's slow progress (pneumonia, platelet count drops, bleeding in the brain, and possible liver function problem). All of which prevents us from giving her the nutrition she needs to grow so that the organs can move into her abdomen faster. This slow progression also adds exponentially. . . . .
New complications
Update posted by Christian Mata at 06:29 amNatalie now has pneumonia which complicates her road to recovery and is more dependent now on the ventilator. Additional antibiotics have been given to address this. Another complication is that her platelets continues to go down, it was discovered that bleeding was present in her brain--which could lead to seizures.
First fundraising activity!
