On Friday, August 9th Maria Garcia-Granados de Rodriguez and her two sons were in a serious car accident in Villa Nueva, Guatemala. A transport truck left the road into on coming traffic hit their car head on.
Nicolás and Santiago were in the back seats of the car. Suffering serious bump, bruises and a fractured femur for Santiago, they were realized the day of and the following day.
María has suffered multiple major injuries the most delicate being major head trauma. She remains unconscious in the hospital. She underwent a 7 hour surgery to relieve liquid and blood from her brain. She continues in stable condition in the ICU in Guatemala City. She has made very minor improvements over the last couple of days moving her hand, legs, head and mouth and the liquid/blood and pressure in her head has has lowered to a stable level but not significant enough at this point.
Maria is married with two young boys, Nicolas (10) and Santiago (7) as every mother does, she lives for her kids and family. The driver of the transport truck has been let go virtually scott-free with no repercussions whatsoever. Maria and family have been left fighting for her life as mounting medical bills rise. Not only the effects of this tragic accident will affect her and family for years to come, the debilitating debt incurred fighting for her life will absolutely affect them for the rest of their life.
