Costa Rica is a popular destination for travelers around the world. This country and specially the region of Tamarindo in Guanacaste relies to 90% on tourism which dropped to 0 when we closed our borders. People in CR live on a day to day basis and are not able to accumulate great amounts of savings. Our area lost about 20,000 jobs from one day to another and people can't generate income to cover their basic needs. In short words, they are starving! We created Food Banks to avoid desperation and violence but this is only a short term solution. We need to aim for the long term.

A team of neighbors and scientists created a project based on a regenerative/organic model in order to reach food sovereignty. We acquired 2+ acres of land which will provide 135 tons of food for the people. “ El rendimiento nacional de Cuba en 2002 fue de 13.5 Kg/m2 /año (135 t/ha/año), según Companioni, (2003).”

Also have in mind that in Costa Rica 2 to 4 harvests are possible.

We need funds in order to buy seeds, material, basic tools, water pumps, pipes and legal fees in order to make it happen. We also need to acquire more land to fulfill the needs of 20,000 people.

We are aiming to create a foundation or an agricultural cooperative as a legal structure where every farm is a shareholder. In challenging times the food will be given in exchange of work either on the farms or for the community based on people's abilities. In flourishing times we plan to sell the organic product for the normal market price in order to provide the area with organic healthy food available for everybody.

Possible profits will be reinvested in restructuring our economy so we are not solely depending on tourism anymore. This will provide stable jobs and a flourishing economy based on a healthy lifestyle and prosperity for everyone.

We still have a lot of work to do but we also hope that our model will be duplicated and every community will achieve something similar. It's for the people in combination with nature. For a better future! Thank you for your time and your donation!
