Is a Child Life worth $1 – Feed Malnutrition Children

What exactly is Malnutrition?

• When a person is not getting enough food or not getting the right sort of food, malnutrition is just around the corner. Even if people get enough to eat, they will become malnourished if the food they eat does not provide the proper amounts of micronutrients - vitamins and minerals - to meet daily nutritional requirements. – quote from WFP.org (World Food Program)

It all started a day when 2 of my kids aged 6 & 8 were watching online tv cartoon and saw a short commercial about unfortunate African children facing starvation & malnutrition number by millions in the world. Curious in nature, the younger one asked “Daddy, why are they like that?” …… to make sure I understand him fully I asked in return “What do you mean? Do you mean why are they so skinny is it?”, and he replied “Yes, don’t they have food to eat? Why? They don’t have money?” before I answered more questions by him “I have money, can you use my money-bank money to buy food for them? I’ve a lots of food, can I give them some?”……. Gosh, I’m almost in tears realizing his pure intention & kindness of helping some strangers thousand miles apart without asking any rewards in return. I hug him and promised that I’ll try to investigate and see what’s the more appropriate way to lend a helping hand to those children. From there I’ve been asking myself, what have I ever done to contribute to the society besides yearly donations to local old folks homes & donating some clothing to the church my kids attended every Sunday. Is that ALL I can do or will do?

Do you know that according to the research almost 1 out of 4 children in the poverty 3^rd world country suffering from malnutrition. There are many humanitarian non-profit organization who puts a lot of time and effort by accepting donations to provide various necessity to the unfortunate children including food, shelter, medication, education etc. Then, what else am I able to contribute???

I ALWAYS BELIEVE “Prevention is better than cure”. Why must the children suffer from malnutrition when WE can provide them a complete nutritional food? From my investigation through World Food Program (WFP), both their program was meant to target Acute Malnutrition mostly for children 6-59months max. What about those children of >6years, are they not prone of malnutrition too? Healthy Body grows Healthy Mind. Children need to have sufficient nutrition to develop into the better person of society.

Healthy nutritional food don’t have to be tasteless, hard to eat and dull. As I’ve been a consultant & General Manager for food supplement industry before, besides effectiveness of the supplement the other aspect we are seriously looking into is the taste. Since, I’m going to develop a new complete nutrient product, why not add a little flavor for the children to enjoy. The common flavor will be chocolate, strawberry, banana, orange etc.

Frankly speaking, from where I am, here SEA (South East Asia) in Malaysia specifically, general public awareness & acceptance of this type of program has limited coverage & exposure. Therefore, I’ve to rely on Crowd Funding hoping to formulate & produce a so called “Superfood” Ready-to-use food (RUF) with complete daily nutrition Recommended Nutrient Intakes (RNI) by FAO/WHO.

For 1^st phase, I will develop the Superfood with various flavor in Food Bar form as it’s easier to transport and create better appetite & enjoyed more by children. Rest assured that this Food Bar will be manufactured in an ISO, GMP, HACCP accredited certification environment. After talking to my Nutritionist, the preliminary nutrient included will be :-

Protein, Carbohydrates, Fats, Calcium, Iron, Folate, Fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Vitamin B6, Thiamine, Riboflavin, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, Folic Acid plus Zinc, Potassium, Magnesium, Selenium, Iodine, Phoshorus, Manganase.

If 1^st phase is successful made possible by global kind hearted contributors like Y O U, 2^nd phase will be to produce liquid based flavored nutritional drinks as water is a must in life.
