We introduce you to DUNA, our small manatee of the lagoon of Cuero and Salado. Dune measures 114 cm long and weighs 54.7 lbs. She was found stranded on the beach of the community of Salado Barra on Wednesday September 20 and thanks to the patrols of our team of resources and Naval Force Duna could be rescued in time. It is a puppy about two or three weeks old born according to the characteristics of its navel, size, weight and folds in its tail. Duna is being monitored with the support of our veterinary friend from Brazil, Fernanda Attademo of the Peixe Boi Marinho Program at ICMBio. Thanks to Fernanda, Duna is receiving a balanced and natural diet to keep her healthy and strengthen her immune system. For our country, Duna represents the first manatee to be rehabilitated with the objective of reintegrating it into the natural population of manatees in the refuge. Thanks to the Cuero y Salado Foundation team, Duna is receiving 24-hour attention since it needs to be fed often, but we need your help. Duna will need to be fed with her milk and bottle for two years until she is released and her food should increase considerably month by month.
