Eric’s Walk Across New Zealand

My name is Eric Zachanowich. I am a photographer from Canada. I spent most of 2014 travelling throughout Asia, spending an extended period of time travelling through Nepal's Himalayas. While there I was treated with kindness and love, although I also witnessed struggle and pain. Since Nepal's recent earthquakes the country has been in need of our help more than ever. Help they would give us if they could.

I will be walking a 3000km (1864 miles) trail across New Zealand called the Te Araroa. I will be be starting my walk beginning of July at the top of the North Island, and continue walking south for 1600km to Wellington. From Wellington I will take a boat across the North Island to the South Island, and continue the walk for another 1400km across New Zealand's southern alps until I reach bluff (The southern most point of New Zealand). I estimate this will take me between 120-150 days taking weather delays and possible injuries into account.

People throughout the country are suffering, but my largest concern is for those living in Nepal's High altitude regions. I want to build awareness specifically for the families that live and survive in the dangerous conditions of the high himalayas. Sherpas are injured and killed every year guiding us through these unforgiving mountains to support their families. Its time we give back and help those in need.
