Engr. Zeny Villalva (Mommy Zen/Ma'am Zeny/Tita Dada) is a chemical engineering graduate of Mapua, a PRC licensed chemical engineer, a certified Senior Instrumentation and Control Engineer, a Doctor of Technology Education candidate, and more importantly a pillar of the Instrumentation and Control Engineering and Technology in the Philippines who has worked in the industry and in the academe for over 42 years. She is a prolific and beloved professor, trainer, lecturer, consultant and resource speaker who has taught in universities such as University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), Mapua Institute of Technology, Rizal Technological University (formerly Rizal Technological Colleges), and Phil-Asia School of Information Technology. Her unconditional kindness, tenacity of spirit, and devotion to improving the lives of every people she meets has inspired many (mostly students), mostly from humble backgrounds to be the best in their profession and become the standard bearer and inspiration in their own families. She is a mother to three biological children and their beloved, a second mother to nieces and nephews who made each of them special in their own right, and an adoptive mother to hundreds of individuals whom she has met and took under her wing be it during her years as a professor or during her senior years as a life coach and mentor that has served communities and advocacies that support women, children, and senior citizens in the Philippines.

In October 26, 2022, she was admitted at The Medical City for a supposed Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (less invasive removal of gall bladder) due to abdominal pains spanning 3 months. On the same day, she has received results of her biopsy confirming that she has breast cancer. Her breast surgeon referred her to a laparoscopic surgeon to relieve her from her terrible pain and discomfort preferably before she would begin cancer treatment with an oncologist. Unfortunately, while only being admitted just over a day in the hospital, she suffered an acute heart attack and septic shock. Her heart condition has affected her kidney functions leading to failure (undergoing dialysis). Her pneumonia was addressed but needed pleural fluid drainage thru catheter on both lungs. After more serious tests to find out what causes all these, last November 2, 2022, doctors have confirmed that her cancer has metastasized to her lungs, her bones and abdomen. This means she has stage 4 breast cancer, and all the months of discomfort and pain were confirmed symptoms of her condition. At this point, she has not shown any improvement in the ICU. Her oncologist do not recommend chemotherapy to counter her cancer diagnosis due to her weak state as she may suffer more from the side effects at this point. They started her with a tablet form of chemotherapy (hormonal therapy) which is pounded and put thru her NGT, but her doctors are not confident it would be fast acting enough to counter her complications and condition. She remains in the ICU waiting for messages from those that she loves and those that love her back.

We, her immediate family, are asking for prayers and if you are interested in helping us out with any amount to cover some of her medical expenses, we would appreciate it immensely.

If you are in the Metro Manila area, and you wish to see her, please arrange with us so we can ask permission from the ICU (The Medical City 3rd Floor) to allow your visit (must be Covid vaccinated) during visiting hours 9am to 11am and 5pm to 7pm.

If you are outside of Metro Manila, you may contact us for a video call instead.

Thank you.
