Hi there - I am Aleeyah Amanda Ali and along with my partner I operate a community and animal protection center in beautiful Arima, in Trinidad & Tobago.
We provide support to under-served members of our community with education, nature care and conservation, food security and growing, and legacy creation.
A huge part of our work is the preservation, protection and conservation of red foot and yellow foot tortoises - critically endangered in Trinidad, and sadly already extinct in Tobago.
Read about what is happening to the yellowfoots here, we would say it is the same with redfoots...

VITAL PROJECT - HELP US COMPLETE THE WORK
COVID-19 and the pandemic have affected Trinidad & Tobago just as in the rest of the world, with lockdowns and closures.
Watch this TV interview with Amanda for an insight into their work:
https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=236829824910040
In this time, we had to close down much of our public-facing activity and have not been able to generate income as we usually do.
The support here has been minimal and we have put a huge effort, supported generously by our supporters from around the world, to provide food hampers and vitals to the local communities, especially those overlooked by the major agencies.
We are now looking ahead to the lifting of restrictions and we have some vital refurbishment work to complete. We have received sponsorship to enhance our site for the animals and for visitors, and phase 1 is complete. Costs have increased beyond our planned budget, again due to global conditions beyond our control so we are reaching out for support to complete the works.
The
completion of Phase 2 renovations will allow us to begin virtual
tours and private bookings to the center within Covid protocols.
This is essential for our financial sustainability into the post-pandemic times.
Here is our 'Wishlist' shared in a recent appeal via Facebook:

Aleeyah Amanda Ali is the CoFounder, Director and Secretary with roles as curator of bioactive enclosures, animal handler and carer.
She started this Foundation to formalize and expand her voluntary Community & School activities based on the past 30 years community service and past 24 years on her return to Trinidad & Tobago after completing her studies in the UK & Canada. She has been working in Trinidad & Tobago as An Arts Education & Career Guidance Facilitator voluntarily. For Primary Schools, Libraries, Community Activities & Events, she has been working as Children’s Character; Redzi…the Trini Clown with plenty Tobago flavor!!! A character she Conceptualized, Developed, Perform as & Manage (including Costume & Set Design)
For the past 23 years she has worked in Schools, Community Events and NALIS - St James Library conducting a series of Edu-Cultural Interactive Workshops entitled “Discovering Redzi’s World” voluntarily. This series was extended to the Diego Martin Library by invitation of NALIS. The programme has had overwhelming response and has been praised for its successful delivery of Educational, Cultural and Environmental / Climate lessons as well as Nation Building by Library Staff, Teachers, Parents and children because of the creative use of a Magical Portable Children’s Set and Props; sessions also include Music and Musical Instruments, Cultural Artifacts, Puppetry, Story Telling, Slide show presentations and Live Animals.
A team of qualified dedicated like minded individuals have joined in the work we are doing in the Community. Our Santa Rosa Heritage & Learning Resource Center & Kulturkafe launch Easter 2020... was postponed in February and ALL OUR RESOURCES WERE TURNED TOWARD EMERGENCY MEDICAL SUPPLIES, FRESH FOOD AND DRY GOODS FOR OVER 500 FAMILIES IN DIRE NEED OF SUPPLIES....
Your support will help us keep our projects going, and allow us to continue to support rescue animals, communities and individuals in this challenging time.
THANK YOU!
Do share and all donations however small are very welcome.
NOTE
Sarah Dixon is based in the UK and is a former schoolmate of Amanda, supporting the project and the transfer of funds from this fundraiser to Trinidad.
