Short Summary

Culture has always been one of the main topics of the Town Council of Vila Real de Santo António and was betting this the first hour of this Executive.

It was fundamental to think and structure the concept of culture and cultural offer that a Junta de Freguesia can and should offer its population, in this sense, many questions were raised about the role that culture, in its broad sense, plays in a society with Very characteristic and unique characteristics, typically exemplary of small means and far from large urban centers.

In order to analyze the last 10 years of cultural work, both at the municipal level and at the parish level, the cultural programs for Vila Real de Santo António were analyzed and subsequently compared with several localities with similar characteristics, namely at the level The number of inhabitants and the geographic location (coast).

After this work of analysis we came to the conclusion that the Town Councils should play a much more important role in the culture and cultural offer of a locality because its role is to help the municipality maintaining its own ideology and mission.

We then decided to add to our annual plan of activities at least one cultural event that was governed by an innovative concept, in the level of what was done in our modern county and which offered the population a cultural program destined for the typical presented and thus the Meetings were born off.

The money will be for the 2017 event schedule.

The event will feature only Portuguese bands.

The Impact

For the fourth edition of Encontros al Largo we would like to raise the bar, we feel that the event at this moment has gained notoriety and relevant importance, not only in the county, but also in the region. However, given our small budget, it is not possible for us, as a Parish Council, to take this next step that everyone wants and expects.

Having said that, we would like to raise any partners who will help us to raise this event, which is already a reference, making it better and richer, helping not only the Algarve, a region that is culturally rich, yet forgotten and out Of the emerging Portuguese cultural route, but all the other regions of our country and all the places further away from the great urban and cultural centers.

This is not just our mission, we are sure that many more organizations and companies are willing to join hands to raise not only the Algarve region but the whole country, in search of more cultural opportunities, a quality cultural offer , Modern, rich, distinctive, trend and above all emergent.
