Emily Goes to Vietnam!

Hello Family & Friends.

I hope this message finds you all well, happy and healthy. I am writing to share with you some exciting news in my life. This spring (April 2014) I will be travelling to Vietnam on a volunteer trip.

For many years I have dedicated my life to caring for children. I have worked with children of all ages, big and small, and many children who struggle with disabilities. I truly believe this career path has been a blessing to me. I only hope that I was a blessing to those families I have been fortunate to work with. I think all the little ones, no matter age or race or circumstance deserve to feel loved and nurtured. This might sound silly, but I truly feel it was my calling.

In the U.S. families and children with special needs struggle; however, they have many resourses and forms of aid available to them. This is not the case in many other countries. In some places if a child has a disability they are cast aside and forced to live without parents in a shelter or on the street, particularly in places where families struggle to support themselves before any extra costs associated with a special needs child. That being said, those children need our love and affection and to be cared for the same, if not more. That is why I am travelling to Vietnam. If I only touch the life of one child while I am there I will have suceeded in my mission. I will be working primarily with orhans, in street children shelters, and assisting professionals in disability centers helping to care for disabled orphans. I will help provide care while offering children fun activities like sports and arts & crafts and teaching life lessons. All things that these children do not have unlimited access to.

As a child care provider I do not have unlimited access to funds, if I did, I would make a trip like this every year. I am asking for your help to make this journey. I appreciate and understand everyone has a different circumstance so anything that you are willing to give is enough and I will be forever grateful.
