HELP ME TO START MY NEW LIFE
My name is Victoria and I'm a 20-years-old Venezuelan living in Caracas. You may or may not know the economic issues and political strife that are plaguing my country. The economy is wrecked and the country is falling to pieces. Shortages of supplies and few job opportunities strangle the potential of an entire generation. I now find myself, as well as many young people, seeking to leave everything I have ever known in the belief that a new life and a better future await me.
As a college student with high aspirations, I want to move to a place that offers real opportunities to young people willing to put in hard work and dedication. When I started studying French 2 years ago, I became really interested in that culture. I found that France is a multicultural country full of possibilities, where higher education is extremely accesible and the welfare system works amazing. Even though my French is far from being perfect, I am sure that France is the country where I want to establish and grow.
In order to move to France, I first need to do a French course to perfect the language. Through my research, I found that Institut Lyonnais (http://www.institut-lyonnais.com/fr) is a well-respected institution based in Lyon, with 33 years of experience teaching languages. They offer an eight-months intensive program that costs €4,320 and includes tuition, books, and other class materials. Also, for the first three months, I would need €2500 for rent, transportation, food, and other basic costs of living. I will be able to work as soon as I know enough French to do so. Finally, the third expense I need to cover is the plane ticket from Venezuela to France. For the Fall season, when I'm planning to start my classes, the price for the ticket is €1600 approx.
As you can see, I´ve done my research and calculated my basic expenses; they total €8,420 (which equals aprox. $9,000) for eight months of classes, three months of living and the plane ticket.
I am sure that this path will give me the initial tools needed to thrive in France. I'm not looking for someone to give me everything, I just need the initial push to start. Rest assure that I will work hard every day, as I have always done, to make all of you proud of supporting me. I will succeed, exceed standards and prove that determination and consistency are the main ingredients to make it in life. If you're reading this I know you value dedication and passion; please help me get to a country that shares those values as well. Every contribution, even just a dollar, would mean the world to me, so if you donate, thank you SO SO much, I won't ever be grateful enough for your contribution.
Since I was little I was taught that having to start over with a new life is not a burden, but an opportunity to prove yourself; studying French in Lyon is my first step on this journey.
