Overview: Each year, my high school takes a group of around 24 students to Belize. Being an ecology trip, the focus is mainly on the plant and animal life in Belize. We will spend our days hiking through tropical rainforests, snorkeling and attending lectures. Three days of our trip will be spent at a zoo. This zoo is not typical though, it is a sanctuary that is home to many of Belize's indigineous creatures. Ranging from jaguars to scarlet macaws. Also, we will be visiting the Mayan Ruins and spending a short time in Belize City, where most of the population lives.
Requirements: In order to go on this trip, I had to have completed and performed well in two science classes, written an essay and got a teacher recommendation. While not many students get turned away, this is the most selective trip in my school.
Money: The cost of the trip is pretty steep, and has gone up over the past months. At $2150 per person, it is one of the most exspensive trips offered. We have done tons of fundraising, but we have had to split our earnings between 24 people. I have done individual fundraising as well, but it is getting close to the trip date and I still need $700. Donating will help pay for airfare, meals, lodging and day to day transportation. This is the trip of a lifetime, and I don't want to miss out because of the cost. Any and all donations will help.
I've never been out of the country, and want to experience something other than my small Vermont town. Please help send me to Belize!
