Greetings World,

We are the LGBT refugees from Uganda and proud who is currently living in Nairobi

We are representing the LGBTIQ+ refugees who are facing daily challenges, discrimination and brutal torture in Kenya.

We have an organized coalition of the LGBTIQ+ refugees in Kenya.who are being attacked because of their sexual orientations and gender expressions. For those who don't know, Kenya is known as a country of asylum where victims who face torture, discrimination and violence in their home countries may go to safety and wait for the resettlement to a third promised country. However, what it looks like is not how it is!

For the LGBTIQ+ refugees who are lured to this country with the promise of asylum and protection, they became trapped here and face torture and abuse that is often worse than in the countries they've run from. In Kenya, it is still illegal to be an LGBTIQ+ person. If caught it's death or life in prison. The government of Kenya and the police are very corrupt and the UNHCR - United Nations Human Crisis Response - who are supposed to be there to help with shelters, safety, medication and essentials are doing the least due to their corruption and ignorance. Illness and disease run rampant, with limited clean water, resources, scarcity of food, poor medical services, first aid, warm bedding, educational support, mosquito nets, sanitary pads and tampons for women and girls, toiletries, solar panels for electricity (Kakuma Refugee Camp is in the middle of a desert), gas for cooking, soap, First Aid kits, financial aid for emergency hospital visits and a severe lack of Trans Health & Mental health Care. However, the LGBTQ+ refugees try to solve some of these issues by sharing what little food and water they can acquire.

Discrimination, Homophobia and Transphobia are the reasons for brutal violence which affects the lives of LGBTQ+ refugees and children of LGBTQ+ parents who are terrorized, physically and mentally scarred, crippled and murdered. Their bodies have been set on fire, soma have died of these injuries, they have been stoned and beaten with sticks the size of baseball bats. Trans people are forced to take off their clothes, in public, exposing their bodies, mocked then physically and sexually abused in the process and if they try reporting these crimes to the authorities sometimes the treatment is worse than what they are reporting.

For the LGBTIQ+ refugees, it's rarely possible to find employment especially in the camp or for the children of LGBTIQ+ refugees to attend school. There are entire generations who've been born in and grown up in this refugee camp, this is all they know of life. It's too dangerous to integrate with the privileged Cisgender/Heterosexual population.

Our appeal goes to you, who are reading this right now, you who understand that this suffering is unnecessary, they need us now, it's you who can help, you can donate and/or spread the awareness about the current situation that is going on in Kakuma. The LGBTQ+ refugees are highly vulnerable as long as they are still in this horrible camp. I know that this situation won't last forever, by the grace of God they will be helped and taken to safer places. An update will be written below if they are taken to a safe place/country that can happily welcome them as the proud LGBTQ+ people we all know they are. I am doing the best I can for that to happen, but at the moment, I need help to help them in the present with present obstacles. Financially they need your help, spiritually they need your prayers, mentally & emotionally they need your love, support and acceptance.

We are reaching out to you, kindly requesting for your help, as we are a small minority group of LGBTQ+ refugees surviving in one of the most dangerous place on the planet. We would greatly appreciate it if you could take a minute to read and listen to our voice as I speak to you as it is an emergency.

We have decided to make this fundraiser because we are very vulnerable. We are a group of LGBTQ+ people who face every kind of abuse, violation, attacks and our situation is not something that everyone can understand, but I am confident that some will be able to understand it. Many people have been wondering why we have been staying indoors and keep a low profile. We do this to save our lives. This is because our situation has not allowed us to be our authentic selves.

We have assessed that our current situation is very bad and we fear that we are at the end point. We do not want to be remembered as people who were freedom fighters or caring friends AFTER we lose out lives. This is why we are reaching out to you for help.

We need your support as I will be sharing all the situations that we pass through in Nairobi which makes life close to impossible. We are requesting support for the LGBTQ+ community and other people from around the world to help us get good healthy food. We are facing problems like scarcity of food, poor medical services, lack of first aid kits, lack of warm bedding, lack of mosquito nets, sanitary pads for women and girls, lack of toiletries , lack of solar panels for light, lack of gas/charcoal for cooking if at all food is given to us, lack of soap & personal hygiene products, emergency hospital visits and Mental health services. If you have been following the Facebook accounts from Eric Burke or anyone living in Nairobi we are trying to address and rectify these and other serious issues. Thank you for your attention.
