My name is Olivia and I am an 18 year old student living in Melbourne, Australia. All my life I have made it my mission to one day be involved in a volunteering project overseas, specifically the children of Africa. My desire to become a nurse has finally led me to decide on the path of taking a once in a lifetime trip to a Emergency home care Orphanage in Cape Town, South Africa where I will stay for 6 weeks. This orphanage cares for children without a home and aims to provide them with food, water, shelter and education. The reason why I have chosen Cape Town to be my destination of choice is due to the diversity of culture, language and ethnicity of the area but also the suffering of young children and families from poverty, substance abuse, HIV/AIDS and unemployment. My wish as a volunteer is to witness and experience hand in hand the suffering of these young children with them which would be an invaluable experience for both me and the community members of Cape Town. I hope that my experience will change the way I view this world and one day will inspire others to help communities and those in such great need and my ultimate aim is to be a positive role model in which these children can look up to and someone who believes in them and their futures.
