The SOCKs (Save Okinawa Cats and Kittens) club was established in January 2016 by a group of animal lovers at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) to help control the over abundant population of stray cats by conducting trap-neuter-release (TNR) campaigns in Okinawa.
From 2016-2020 SOCKs volunteers, with the help of local veterinarians and Doubutukikin (Animal Fund) has helped spay/neuter over 548 cats. We continue to conduct TNR campaigns in Okinawa with the aim to reduce the killing of stray cats to ZERO.
Apart from TNR, SOCKs has also organized bake sales to raise funds for local animal shelters, such as Cherubims Animal Garden and we have also helped rescue and rehome several stray dogs.
SOCKs is an entirely volunteer run organization and we do not receive any external funding. Our expenses include equipment cost for traps and cages, cost for vaccinations, and veterinary costs for sick and rescued animals. Your donations will help us continue our work to make life a little better for stray animals in Okinawa.
