私たちは、今、超大型台風「ライ」の災難に見舞われている何千人もの人々への援助と支援を緊急に呼びかけています。これをご覧になっている方は、ぜひご一読ください。

On December 16, Super Typhoon Rai or Odette has brought wanton destruction in its path. And the hardest hit was the Philippines. The trajectory of the super typhoon was from the Pacific Ocean going westwards, slicing through Leyte Islands, Northern Mindanao and Cebu. The destruction was indescribable, reminiscent of Super Typhoon Haian in 2013. Death toll is now at 209 and counting, and thousands are left without homes. It is the most destructive typhoon in the Philippines since Typhoon Haian in 2013. The photos that you will be seeing here have been sent to me by my relatives and our charity organization back home. The urgent need right now is to provide for food and drinking water.

This will be the longest Christmas for these people and the least that we can do is give them a little something from our hearts

As a survivor of the world's biggest mega typhoon ever recorded Typhoon Haian, I am no longer a stranger to the suffering that comes along the aftermath of a tragedy such as this.

In fact, I wrote a book about it on how to deal and survive through an apocalyptical super typhoon. And it is the reason why I am here to make a humanitarian appeal to you to answer the call of social responsibility that in so doing we can realize that to lose everything and pick up the pieces when it is all gone is profoundly the hardest experience a human being probably has to go through. Thus, I seek your help that together we can avert another impending humanitarian disaster if we take action now.

世界最大級の台風「ハイアン」を経験した私は、このような悲劇の後にやってくる苦しみを知らないわけではありません。

実際、私はこの台風について、黙示録的な超大型台風にどのように対処し、生き残るかについての本を書きました。私がここにいるのは、社会的責任を果たすために皆さんに人道的な訴えをするためです。そうすることで、すべてを失い、すべてがなくなったときに破片を拾い集めることは、おそらく人間が経験しなければならない最も困難な経験であることを理解することができます。今、私たちが行動を起こせば、差し迫った人道的災害を回避することができます。

I grew up and spent part of my childhood in these beautiful rural towns. As a teacher based overseas, I owe the greater part of my life learning from my relatives, friends and towns folks back home. My heart is aching to see the beautiful towns of Southern Leyte beaten to a pulp and washed out. I am appealing to you wherever you are in the world to join us and extend help to the people of Leyte and the Philippines!

Here’s what we will do about it

1. The immediate need at the moment is to send in-kind items to the survivors good for a thirty-day supply run. We have identified the basic needs as follows:

• canned meat goods
• rice
• water filters
• warm blankets
• medicines
• baby food

Below is a sample FOOD PACK KITS that we intend to distribute to families who lost their homes and will be needing food sustenance for the next couple of weeks.

1. 現在、緊急に必要とされているのは、被災者の方々に30日分の物資を送ることです。私たちは、基本的なニーズを以下のように特定しました。

• 肉の缶詰
• 米
• 浄水器
• 暖かい毛布
• 薬
• ベビーフード

以下は、家を失い、今後数週間にわたって食料を必要としている家族に配布する予定のフードパックキットの例です。

2. The second part of our aid will go to helping stranded animals or stray animals find their homeowners while temporarily seeking a makeshift shelter for them. We will buy the following:

• dog food and cat food
• veterinary medicine supply
• makeshift shelter

We have coordinated with some of the active charity and socio-civic groups on the ground that we will be supporting to make sure that our deliverables will be received directly by the recipients. One of them is JCI Philippines through JCI Tacloban, a local chapter within proximate location of the disaster area. JCI is a leadership oriented organization but is also active in socio-civic activities. I have been a member of JCI since 2011 and has served as one of its regional training directors. Below is a poster that they have posted calling for international SOS. I am taking the initiative to ask others here abroad to join me in supporting this urgent call for humanitarian aid.

I have been active in disaster relief operations since 2013 and I have a rich experience in deploying a coordinated and organized relief effort. We are raising ¥500,000 or $5,000 within the next couple of weeks to immediately address the needs of the survivors. We want the impact of our humanitarian help be substantially effective to the recipients.

We have a good network of support teams on the ground who can assist us in ensuring that our relief goods and humanitarian support will reach the survivors. We will also ensure that we are able to help our furry friends: animals who need immediate relocation and adoption while waiting to return them to their homeowners.

For the long-term, we will be provide building materials for families with babies or elderly, and those with sickly members. A sturdy and temporary shelter is an utmost priority before the onset of the monsoon season in June of 2022.

We will be posting updates, list of people who donated and the amount (you can opt to remain anonymous), and the actual work on the ground so that you can actually feel that you are working with us side by side on the ground.
