Our mom has always been a good provider to us and our family. 13 years ago our dad died due to Liver Metastasis. My mom tried to cope up with everything physically, emotionally and financially. Now, it's time that we as her children help her.
Last January, my mother took the courage to have herself checked since she has not been feeling well for the past few months. She suspected that it could be her highblood pressure or anemia. It turn out that her hemoglobin level went down to 5 and as what doctors said, this is already a very critical level. She was then advised to have herself admitted in the hospital for blood transfusion. During laboratories and other tests, the doctor found lesions on her lungs, she also underwent ultrasound and they found a mass on her left kidney, it was about 45%. We were then referred to see a Urologist.
The Doctor advised for a CT scan to check the issue and to further schedule her for an operation, the urologist then told us that she has Renal Cell Carcinoma (An RCC is a type of kidney cancer), once we got the CT scan results, it was the time that the doctor told us that 95% of her kidney is already damaged and that she will have to undergo Radical Nephrectomy. This operation alone would cost us around 260,000.
Unfortunately, the disease already metastasized to her lungs (Stage 4). So even after the operation, she would need to undergo continuous medication since Chemo is not an option for her diagnosis. We are still in the process of going back and forth from the hospital to visit her doctors and require other tests such as a Bone Scan and other laboratories. We were able to get the Biopsy results already and the doctor asked us to prepare money for her long term medication. The Doctor prescribed her with VOTRIENT, it's a type of Targeted treatment for Stage 4 RCC and the medicine would cost around Php 63,000 for 15 days and she would need to take it 2 x a day for 2-3 months. After 2 months of medication, she would undergo another CT scan and will then continue with the medication for a couple of months and may possibly be given as a maintenance.
I can only do so much as I also have a family to feed and support. My mom is a fighter and we know deep within our hearts that she still wanted to live. My sister and I together with our children would like to humbly ask your generous hearts to spare us some time to pray for my mothers safety and healing and we would also ask if you can spare some for us to help give our mom more time to live with us here on earth.
