Did you know many crew members on cruise ships come from poor families in 3rd world countries? Many of the crew members are working to help their families back home. They work long hours everyday and spend about 10 months away from their families to earn money to send back to their families. It is not easy working long hours and not easy being away from their families for months. But they do it.

There is a Balinese boy who wants to do this work to help his family. His name is Dewa Surya and he is 18 years old and just graduated from High School. His he lives with his parents and younger brother and sister. His father works as an office boy for a local company making minimum wage [for Bali Indonesia about $200 a month]. His mother just lost her job with a local company that went bankrupt. Now she works 2 or 3 days a week as a waitress in a local cafe [making about $13 a day for 8 hours]. His brother is in Junior High School - the family is behind on monthly school payments for him - school is not free in Bali. His younger sister in just 2 years old.

My name is Chris Sampson and I am a retired American living in Bali, Indonesia. I have known this family for many years and have often helped them. Last year the grandfather of the family had to go to the hospital and the family ‘borrowed’ $350 from me to pay for his hospital fees. I am not sure if they will ever be able to pay me back. I live here on a small budget and have to be very careful with my money but I want to help this hardworking family. I want to help this boy so he can help his family.

He needs money to go to a one year cruise ship school here in Bali and possibly 6 months on the job training in Australia, to get a cruise ship position. All cruise ship crew must go through school and training for a year or more.

I want to ask for your help for this boy and his family. He needs $2000 for the school fee and $2000 for extended training in Australia. He also needs to get a passport and luggage and such. The extended training in Australia is not mandatory but would make it easier to get a good job on any well known cruise line.
