Covid-19

Dear Friends and Family,

As you all know, Spain has been one of the hardest hit countries in Europe to date by Covid-19. More than 8,000 citizens have passed away, a figure that increases by 850 people daily. c. 5,600 patients are battling it out in intensive care, and a further 45,000 are lying isolated in a hospital bed somewhere across the country with the largest toll amongst our elderly.

Aside from patients´ physical wellbeing, which our doctors are taking care of, the second greatest threat to patients seems to be their mental wellbeing. Many of these patients have lost touch with their relatives and feel disorientated in their new surroundings. It´s not an easy journey for the relatives either, as many spend days without news from their loved ones and many might not be able to say goodbye!

To try to help patients reconnect with their families while in the hospital facilities, we have come up with the idea of donating a number of Tablets to hospitals for patients to face-time with their relatives.

We are in touch with Hospital 12 de Octubre, a public hospital in Madrid that caters for a particularly underprivileged part of town and is one of the largest in the city w. c.1,400 beds out of which c.1,000 are being used by Covid-19 patients. They are very excited with our initiative and believe it will have a great impact on their patients in isolation and their families! The Chief Nurse of the hospital has agreed for the nursing staff to spend time every day helping patients make those calls.

We have also confirmed with the potential Tablets provider that they have enough stock available and the Tablets can be delivered to the hospital in a timely manner. Once this healthcare crisis is over, the Tablets will be kept by the hospital and used by the doctors to automate some processes that are still manual due to lack of access to technology.

Depending on the amount fundraised, we will use the rest of the amount to contribute to any other critical needs experienced by the hospital while fighting this disease.
