Cooling Blanket for Night Time Comfort

Welcome to my fundraising page. I guess most of us can sympathize with Oakelfish (the guy in this video). The restlessness, the frustration, and the discomfort of not being able to sleep because of the heat. I understand so I've decided to try and do something about it. Here is my story:

Aim

My aim is to create a cooling blanket that:

a) helps sleepers everywhere sleep more comfortably on hot, balmy nights so that they wake up feeling rested, refreshed and fit to face a new day

b) helps women beat the night-time sweating that occurs during the menopause years.

Having experienced both these situations myself and having listened to the experiences of friends who find it difficult to sleep at night because of excessive heat, humidity and sweating, I wanted to do something to make life more comfortable, not least for woman going through the menopause. I believe that a restful night helps people to operate more effectively both at a personal and professional level throughout the day.

The Problem

There is no doubt that hot, sweaty nights are difficult for any individual and that the menopause years are difficult. Almost every woman who has been through the menopause understands the horrendous discomfort that comes with waking during the night to find their clothes and bedding soaked in sweat. This often means having to get up and change clothing and bedding in the middle of the night, which is not conducive to a restful night's sleep. My goal is to make these years more tolerable with the help of a cooling blanket that will automatically adjust to a comfortable temperature for the user.

I believe there is a large market for this product. As well as benefiting women, it should also appeal to sleepers in hot climates and to those trying to cope in excessive and unaccustomed heat during the summer season.

The blanket I propose to create will use a simple cooling mechanism, which can be applied manually or adjust automatically to a suitable level when it senses an increase in the sleeper's body temperature. Furthermore, this blanket will be economical to use.

I have identified two product development companies that are capable of taking this project on board and helping me with the creation of the blanket through every stage – from initial searches and product ideation sketching through to developing a prototype and marketing.

I am seeking initial funding for this project to get a prototype created.

At the present time I am the only person involved in this project.
