Community Farm

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read this post. I will like to share with you the reality that we are living in our home town. We are located in Cahuita, a small town in the province of Limon, Costa Rica. Being a coastal town we are dependent on tourism and with the borders closed the income for most of the families that live in the area is basically non-existent right now. I understand that the rest of the world is going through the same if not more difficulties than we are, but I want to expose a big problem that is beginning to surface here, food.

I don't mean that we ran out of food, at least not yet. The problem is that since tourism is the main income for most of the families here, and since there are no tourists around, people do not have the money to buy food and we want to do something about this problem. We have land and we can grow some food for people here. The goal is to help those that need it the most first and then slowly be able to help those that are better off.

We already cleared a space in the property that will be used to plant a garden but we need some money to complete the project, we are looking for $1 thousand to finish the farm. It is a small project but with this we hope that the rest of the community will come together and will help us out by planting in their own land and this way we can supply the town with the food that we need.

Let's face it, we have no idea how long this will go on for and the government's aid does not seem to be coming anytime soon, that is the reason why we want to prepare now, while things are not as bad, crops take some time to grow and we want to have them ready for when they're needed the most.

Like the old saying goes: " Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime". We are not looking for the fish, with the way things are people will need their money as much as we do, we are looking for the rod to be able to get the fish for ourselves.
