Coast-to-Coast 2021 Mt. Fuji Challenge

On August 16th I will be taking on a new Coast To Coast challenge in conjunction with International Volunteer Group (IVG) here in Japan. The goal being to raise much needed funds for the Yokohama Children’s Hospice Project, which like so many other Charities around the world have seen their abilities to fund raise severely curtailed by the pandemic.

Yokohama Children’s Hospice project aims to provide support for children with life limiting or life threatening diseases and their families. In Japan these children are not recognised as disabled and so receive very little if any support from the government. The support of the hospice enables these children to reach their maximum potential and make every moment sparkle. The hospice project provides much needed support for those families whose children have sadly passed on. The physical hospice providing a home away from home for these families is scheduled to open in the Autumn.

横浜こどもホスピス うみとそらのおうち「横浜こどもホスピス～うみとそらのおうち」は、病気の子どもと家族の「別荘みたいなおうち」です.入り江の静かな場所に建ち、近くに公園もあり、海と広い空が見えます。

自然あふれる環境で、家族との時間を安心して過ごせるように友人のように寄り添えるスタッフが、子どもと家族がやりたいことを全力でサポートします。子どもの命と向きあい、頑張りすぎるほど頑張っているパパやママ。さみしい気持ちも、遊びたい気持ちも、我慢しているきょうだいさん。ご家族の辛さが少しでも軽くなり、大きな家族のよう見守られるように ホッと一息つける場所。地域の皆様の力をお借りしながら、そんな場所にしていきたいと思っています

The Route this year will start in Numazu, Yamanashi prefecture and end at Itoigawa Beach, Niigata on the other side of Japan, approximately 310KM away. The route also includes the ascent and descent of Mount Fuji. I aim to complete the journey in 6 days.

2019年に日本横断ウォーク、2020年にはサイクリングで横断を成功させた私たちは、2021年に再びチャレンジします。そして、その旅に支援参加してくださる皆様を募集しています。他のチャリティーと同様に、「横浜こどもホスピス」は、パンデミックの間、必要な資金を集めるのに苦労しましたが、このウォークと皆さまの優しさが、献身的なホスピスチームと彼らが支援する子供たちの生活を少しでも明るくするために役立つことを願っています。

今回のチャレンジは、ボトルに入った太平洋の水を持って日本を横断するだけでなく、富士山にも登ることです。総距離は約300kmになります。
