Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics Health Program Fiji

Hi guys, I'm volunteering on a clinical nutrition and dietetics health program in Fiji this summer. Almost 1 in 3 Fijian’s are diabetic and within the next 5 years this is projected to increase to 50%.Obesity is a serious issue for island communities due to a lack of public health education in the face of cheap imported high carbohydrate and fatty foods. There is also a huge increase in non-communicable diseases (NCDs) as a result of poor diet, in particular diabetes and heart disease.

I'm studying nutritional sciences in UCC and have a passion for helping those who are less fortunate. On this program, I will be involved in a structured outreach program (Helping build nutrition and diabetes awareness campaigns, providing nutrition talks and exercise programs, Identifying protein deficiency among school kids), work within a busy health clinic shadowing qualified health professionals conducting blood screening analysis and conduct free assessments as well as give general help and assistance where needed.

The cost of the program itself is approximately €1000. This is not including my own flights and other expenses.
