A year ago I was a self-confessed non-runner, but in a moment of madness, I agreed to take part in Toughest, an obstacle course race I can only describe as full-on Viking-level nuts (it was awesome, in case you're wondering). In preparation for the event, I had to learn to run, at least a little bit. So I managed to complete a couch-to-5k programme. Let's just say it wasn't pretty.
Having moved to Cyprus a few months ago and finding that my fitness schedule wasn't quite settling into anything approaching acceptable, I figured I'd set another goal. So, this March, I will be running the Limassol Half-Marathon!
To mark the occasion and make sure this latest lapse in sanity is not in vain, I am raising money for BirdLife Cyprus. The money will go towards the important work that we do for the conservation of birds and nature on this gorgeous island of ours!
So, if you're looking for a good deed, care about nature, or are just tickled by the thought of me trying to convince my legs and lungs that endurance running really isn't that bad, then please donate!
UPDATE 1: The crazy seems to be contagious! I've lured a few of my colleagues and friends to join me in a second challenge: Dorians Challenge, a coastal obstacle course race in April! 5km. 20 obstacles. Salt water. Madness.
UPDATE 2: It's official: I survived my first ever Half-marathon! In 02:05:51. Thank you SO much to all of you who sponsored me! We've surpassed the arbitrary target I set for fundraising - woohoo - so let's raise even more! If you haven't had a chance to donate yet, don't worry, I've extended to fundraiser so you can still do so.
