Chennai Flood Relief

Dear helping hearts,

Who I am:

I am Yoga and I am from Chennai which is ravaged by flooding due to unprecendented rains in the past few weeks. I have been helping by coordinating sources of food and other supplies with volunteers who have teamed up to distribute them in various areas. I have been asked by many about how to best contribute.

Reason I am collecting funds:

There are larger funds being raised for the flood relief efforts. However, I am personally collecting this fund with my group of friends here in the US and in Tamilnadu for a specific need. Blankets are a huge need right now. This fund will be directly used to buy blankets for the flood ravaged areas in Cuddalore.

Where the money will go:

We have in place a team purchasing warm blankets from Chennai at the rate of Rs. 100 per blanket. They have already been buying, collecting, tranporting and distributing food, clothing and blankets in three trucks. Our current goal is $15000.

We will be posting photos and updates regularly and there will be complete transparency. Thank you for your kindness. The need to supplies ratio is currently much higher in Cuddalore which has not received as much social media exposure.

I believe smaller funds and direct funneling of monies for specific needs is also of utmost importance right now. I understand that transfer of money, delegation and execution of funds usuage becomes more difficult and time consuming as the fund size grows larger. That is the reason I decided to gather my friends and start making a tiny but direct impact as quickly as possible.
