Charley’s nursing elective to Tanzania 2015

Hi everyone, Thankyou for taking the time to come and view my page. Just to give you a little background information for what I'm planning on doing. I go to London South Bank university and I am in my final year of nursing, I have chosen for my elective placement to go to Tanzania. I will be adventuring to Tanzania in April 2015 to experience medical life in an environment different from the UK. Tanzania do not have health care like our NHS, medical equipment and drugs are limited and I find this a perfect oportunity to get to see what real health care is. I am so excited to get to work along side the medics in the Tanzania government hospital for 3 weeks and then to branch off to the local orphanage for a week. I will get the opportunity to help people young and old, from different back grounds and whom suffer with many different diseases such as HIV, Malaria and diabetes to name a few.  My first thought when planning this trip is that I won't be in my comfort zone with all the facilities that are around me during placement within the UK, this will give me an insite to real basic nursing. I hope to gain skills and knowledge that I can bring back to help me be a better nurse, and of course I hope to be able to take something with me to Tanzania.  Like many of the placements I have within university they are all unpaid, I work full time hours alongside fellow health professionals to provide care (which i love). This trip will also be the same, I will need to fund this myself. This includes a fee to PLAN MY GAP YEAR who is a non-government funded organisation whom I will be traveling with as well as my flights. So please if you find this an opportunity of a life time like I do could you help me to fundraise money to enable me to get to my dream placement.  This is NOT a charity and any money raised will go directly to help me pay for this experience.
