Char-Leen’s UC Berkeley Study Abroad

Last year's trip (possible thanks to the donations I recieved) inspired me so much that I am returning to Costa Rica with UC Berkeley from May 24th - July 4th in order to continue my work within Costa Rican communities as well as finish my Peace and Conflict Studies minor. I am aiming to raise a total of $1045 in order to cover my out of pocket expenses that will not be provided by my scholarships. I hope to fundraise enough to cover my additional meals, my books and my personal expenses while I am abroad for six weeks. In Costa Rica I will take 2 classes at the United Nations University of Peace. First I will learn about international policies and contemporary issues related to human security specifically within three areas of (1) climate change, food and water security; (2) urban citizenship and environmental justice; and (3) global trade and human rights. As a follow-on to my human security course, I will participate in peacebuilding practices in the field in order to address human security concerns within Costa Rica. This trip is really important to me not only in order to finish my classes at UC Berkeley but because I also hope to have a career in interntional nonprofits or within international organizations.
