UPDATE!

Thank you for your amazing support, the battle can now begin. We have the money to pay the initial €1600 of the fine plus the €400 lawyers fee to submit our application to challenge the fine. (Greek law means you need to pay some of it before you can appeal it!) We are therefore leaving the page open and increasing the amount to cover the next stage of the fight. We will not let bullies win!

The Cats Pyjamas Rescue is a small charity based in Crete. Our role is to support local cats & cat colonies with food, medicine, veterinary care & assist in the coordination of neutering programs. We also support the community by delivering education in animal care and liaising with other organisations worldwide to foster & rehome abandoned cats & kittens.

With the support of an excellent team of local vets we also nurse sick & injured Cretan cats, rehoming or releasing them back to the wild once they are recovered. We are fully registered here in Greece.
registered Charity No. 57/31.05.2017. Tax No. 997146571.

Despite working closely with the Dimos since 2014, we have been targeted by another local vet who accused us of running an illegal clinic for profit. Convicted in our absence, denied our version of events or any defence, nothing proven yet in court, no witnesses other than the biased/unverified accusations, Chania Vet Association return to serve us with a fine of €5,000. Under Greek law we must pay €1,600 of the fine just to appeal the fine & find the money for legal fees.

These allegations are completely unfounded, however the Greek legal system means that this case has got to be dealt with by the courts.

We decided to do as we always have done to fight this injustice, continue caring for our stray cats, the right to assist our volunteer vets neutering stray cats for free & continue our charity giving the best standards of care possible.

All of The Cats Pyjamas Rescue usual funding is allocated to feeding strays, paying vets fees and for essential medication for the sick and injured cats.

We are therefore launching this specific funding plea to cover the legal bills so that we can clear our name and continue this essential work in the future.
