Building Romeo’s Healthier Future

Romeo came into our life on December 30, 2022, we welcomed him when he was 4 months. He stood out among his three little brown brothers for being the only black one, it was love at first sight.

When we brought him home, we noticed that he had a strange tremor in his legs, even when he slept, so we took him to several vets but they did not have a clear diagnosis, Romeo was getting worse, he was not gaining weight, practically, he wasn't growing, he slept all day long and that made us worried and extremely sad.

When we finally found the right vets, they hit us with the diagnosis. The tremors are a neurological sequel due to canine distemper he had before coming to us, but that was not all, Romeo also has a rare parasite, very difficult to eliminate that compromised his growth, besides and the most concerning issue is that his heart is very big, weak and with failures in his valves.

His veterinarians were sorry to tell us that they estimate his life expectancy to be approximately 5 years.

Romeo is doing his best to get better and we do not want to fail him, the therapies and treatments are getting more expensive and we are concerned about not being able to continue with them, besides, we have the hope that in the near future we'll have the possibility to take him to Universities where open heart surgeries are performed. His veterinarians are supporting us with additional genetic studies, monthly controls and lots of love so that Romeo has a better and longer life.
