Campaign Story
BUILDING NATION THROUGH BUILDING LIBRARIES
Background
As we all know this pandemic has affected our lives in every way possible. For most of us, the way we receive education has drastically changed, but we are still privileged enough to attain it. Unfortunately, this is not the case for most people living in Nepal. As a result of Covid-19, education has completely halted and the future of millions of students has been put on the line.
As the festival season ends in Nepal, some of the schools are expected to start their academic years through physical classes. Unlike Japan, it is not easy in Nepal to set up online classes through online platforms: access to the internet and required devices are also not viable because of many reasons varying from socio-economic problems, geographical accessibilities and lack of resources. The status-quo will remain unchanged if we do not take action.
Our Initiative
Pustakalaya, which translates to Library in Nepali, is an initiative by undergraduates at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, that aims to help these students reach one step closer in building their lives through the power of education. Our goal is to support schools that are having difficulties to operate amidst these troubled times in the most feasible way possible.
Collaboration
This time, through The Book Club and with the collaboration with Leo Club of Kathmandu, we have come up with a project called “Building Nation through Building Libraries.” Through this project, our objective is to build a fully furnished library which will be set up in a school named Shree Saraswati Madhyamik Bidyalaya (SSMB), which is located in Rishing, Tanahun, Nepal.
How can you help?
The store room you can see in the picture can be turned into a fully furnished library that will have course books the students can borrow to study, novels that the students can read to fuel their creativity and stationeries free of cost. This will only be possible if we receive your support. Your contribution will mean that children in Nepal can gain access to basic necessities such as pencils, copies and books for education. As Malala Yousafzai once said, "One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world," you can be a part of that change.
Your contribution, in any way possible, will mean that even in the time of crises we are facing in this world, kindness still prevails.
Please support us in our initiative by helping us reach our goal and sharing it among your friends.
To raise funds, we have set up this crowd-funding that will help to finance the costs of setting up the library. Even if the support is not monetary, we will be glad if you could help us spread the word.
