I am a full time mom of two amazing boys. Life has dealt me with the hands on motherhood card and my only option is to play with it the best that I could. At present, I am trying my very best to raise book loving kids. I always believed that reading gives you a lot of advantages in life. It wipes away ignorance. It exposes you to facts and information that are vital for an individual to thrive in our ever changing universe. It makes one's brain work. It enables us to think, wonder and imagine. However, not eveyone is given the opportunity to read as much as they could. Books, specially those that are written for kids doesn't come cheap. In a third world country like ours, reading books is not the priority. We'd rather buy food than books. Though food fills the tummy, I strongly believe that the mind needs to be fed too and that is through reading. Children in the Philippines doesn't have easy access to books in their communities. Decent libraries are rarely found in a community. I, for example have to buy every single book for my children while some are solicited from generous aunts and friends. I am truly grateful that my kids have their chance to read and explore books that are specially designed to trigger their imagination, creativity and skills but the rest of the children in our community doesn't have access to thosr. Books are provided at school but they are limited to textbooks. Other forms of books are considered a luxury. So I thought about starting a tiny library in our community specially dedicated to preschoolers. A library where they could have access to books they could only look at in bookstores. A place where they could establish their love for reading, expand their imagination and enable them to think and perhaps use what they learn in wisely deciding for their future. They are the future and I really do believe that these kids are better to be equipped while they are still young. Hence, the idea of this go fund me drive. The amount I am trying to reach is not the biggest someone could ask for. For some, it is just a cost of a fancy bag or a pair of designer shoes. But for such amount, the number of books that we could put up in a tiny library for kids could work wonders and the possibilities it could offer to the children are immeasurable. We are raising future scientists, engineers, doctors and everything else that these kids want to be. All we need to do is to extend tiny opportunities to them. This outreach needs to be done and it might work or might not and I accept that. Still, I am glad that I tried it for the kids, for their future. I am a mom who constantly wonder about my children's future. I realized that I should go big than go home and do it for the rest of the children in our community too. Your support will be appreciated through the generations to come!
