MDR-TB, which is deemed a public health crisis by the World Health Organization (WHO). MDR TB is caused by strains of TB bacteria that do not respond to standard antibiotics, which can lead to treatment failures or death and hence the need for isolation of the diagnosed patients while they are still infectious. Management of MDR-TB is characterized by long treatment duration, the high rate of side effects and a prolonged infectious period.

Iganga which is an MDR TB referral Hospital for the Eastern central region in Uganda lacks an isolation ward which puts to risk the patients, Health workers and the general public.

The Partners in Uganda are on the drive to mobilize funds to construct the isolation ward and one of the avenues is through a TB Marathon. The 2nd TB marathon is due to take place on 20th August 2023 starting at 7.00am at the Ministry of Health Headquarters at Kampala. The Marathon Kit costs 30,000/= Uganda Shillings.
