Campaign Story
Thank you everyone who has already given so generously to support the scholarships fundraising for the Extra Lesson (R) Programme!
The Extra Lesson (R) Programme is an individualised assessment and intervention programme for children, teenagers and adults with learning, behaviour, social and emotional challenges. Practitioners are working with this all over the world, some in schools and classrooms, others in private practices. Some countries it is available in are: Australia, New Zealand, Japan, India, Hungary, USA, Brazil, etc.
The training of the practitioners in the Asia Pacific region, undertaken by TELI, The Extra Lesson Institute, based in Australia. Over the last few years they have been working hard in getting the work also to the schools and communities in South Africa. And this year, in January 2020, they started the first part of the three year training.
In South Africa , due to historic challenges of disparity within the wider society, some participants have very limited resources - a factor that impacts on their sustained participation. Therefore a scholarship programme would be of great benefit to those individuals with limited access to the training.
The TELI team are contributing resources to support the training by keeping the course fees for the students to a minimum. This is a very generous offer from TELI!
I work with the Extra Lesson in New Zealand and I know how valuable it is for all the families I work with. The value of it for the children and communities in South Africa is going to be immense! I traveled to South Africa in 1995, where I met the high need for support for the children growing up in the different communities, and saw how low in some of those communities the resources are. For example I met a very enthusiastic woman running a kindergarten from her 1 room tin shack with almost no toys.
I would love to raise 25,000 NZ dollars. This will support a greater number of participants, currently struggling to find the funds, to do the training and bring the work to the different communities where it is needed so much. NZ$ 5000 will support one person to go through the 3 year training. We would like to reach our goal of setting up 5 scholarships for the 3 year training. So please forward this on to your community, friends and family, so that we can reach that goal!
Thank you very much for your support and helping us to bring this work to the children of South Africa!
PS. Due to privacy reasons we can show no photos of the children who will benefit from the training.

Some news for this year and looking ahead.
Update posted by Lut Hermans at 02:43 amWe are now in the second year of the three year training. Last year we managed to fully pay for one student's fees and had some over to support others. This year we are asked to support two students fully and if we can raise some more, that would be
